Frankenweenie (movie review)

Frankenweenie tells the story of a young boy, Victor, and his dog, Sparky. Sparky is Victor's best, and only, friend. So when Sparky gets hit and killed by a car, Victor is understandably devastated. That is, until he comes up with a crazy plan to bring Sparky back to life. This is the first ever 3D stop motion and black and white film. Leave it up to the weird mind of Tim Burton to come up with that. The animation is beautiful and very similar to Burton's previous films, the Nightmare Before Christmas and the Corpse Bride. The 3D is really nothing special. There were only maybe 2 times where the effect was used really well. But the story is where this film really shines. It's classic Burton, literally, as it is a remake of his 1984 live-action short film of the same name. The story starts out as a cliche boy loves dog, dog gets killed in an accident, boy brings dog back to life in a crazy experiment. Actually wait...I've never heard that story before... Anyway, after this happens, the plot takes a couple crazy turns and gets a little creepy, but stays fun. This is a great family movie that I'm sure any Burton fan will love.

7.5/10
